One of my goals for 2020 is to read more. What better way than to commit to reading one book a week? 52 books in 52 weeks and I’ll be sharing every single one on the blog, every Sunday. Check in for my latest reads and recommendations.
I needed a good book I could read in the sun/at the pool so I went back to one of my favorites from high school. “Looking for Alaska” is one of my favorite John Green books, although all the young adult fiction he writes is wonderful.
I recently watched the Hulu series based on the book (thanks for your account password Em!) and didn’t love it, but had to go back and reread the book because I do love the story and the characters. “Looking for Alaska” is one of those books that instant pulls you in but (spoiler) tears out your heart in the end. There are so many substantial themes addressed within Green’s engaging storytelling. You feel for the characters- their successes and misgivings. It’s one of those texts you just can’t put down.
Don’t let its YA- genre scare you away. I truly believe everyone could get something from this book. Sure, it’s no “War and Peace” but it is certainly a high value read.
